EARLY CHRISTMAS CHEERS FOR INSTITUT SINARAN

Once again, the South Australian Matriculation (SAM) Programme students brought early Christmas cheers to the Institut Sinaran Family and their respective families by their excellent results.

Nine out of eighteen SAM students from Institut Sinaran achieved an ATAR of 71 and above. The two top achievers were Chong Jia Yeung and Kenn Chong Ka Kian with the same ATAR score of 82.25. The other achievers were Wong Choong Ling with an ATAR of 79.30, Megan Wong Tze Xuan 78.85, Jeron Joseph 77.80, Brenda Tan Ai Wen 77.05, Farah Fairoza Koroh 75.90, Karen Wong Li Xan 73.70 and Yap Zhi Xin 71.30.

During the eleven month SAM Programme in Institut Sinaran, students' performance were assessed 70% internally and 30% by written examination from Australia in November. SAM students will do well if they put in consistent hard work throughout the year. The 70% of their work which is assessed internally is moderated by the SACE Board of Australia. These high achievers' diligent work and efforts paid off when they received their excellent results on 19th December 2012.

Receiving their results early, before Christmas Day, is a Christmas present for them and also allows them to use the results to apply for university placements for February next year in most Australian universities and some local private universities covering majors in Architecture, Computer Science, Commerce, Engineering, Quantity Survey etc.

Students born and raised in the 1990s are the Net Generation students (Tapscott, 1997), who are IT savvy and would prefer to be actively engaged during their education years. Interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences, teamwork, and collaboration are the emphasis of the SAM Programme. Learning in the SAM Programme is more to experiential learning, catering to the development of Multiple Intelligences. These skills through hands-on activities that our SAM students have acquired will definitely benefit them in their tertiary studies.

Institut Sinaran welcomes students who have just completed their SPM or O Levels to take up the challenges, and benefit from these holistic approaches of the SAM Programme by registering for the January 2, 2013 intake.
