Institut Sinaran Outstanding Students Awarded Hull University Full Scholarship
JOEY CHONG SHIN YEE and WONG SHI YUEN, two of Institut Sinaran's top achievers who scored 4A*s in the June 2013 Cambridge GCE A-Level Exam have been awarded Full Scholarships to study Mechanical Engineering in University of Hull, UK.
University of Hull is one of the famous universities in UK, with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Hull's graduates have been placed among the top 5 nationally for graduate job prospects. The University is also known for being one of the friendliest universities in the country and is one of UK's finest teaching universities, regularly featured amongst the top 20 of national teaching quality league tables. The University of Hull Engineering courses are rated as Britain's top 4 and the assessment of the Electronic and Electrical Engineering programme obtained the full score of 24 points.
Before Joey Chong Shin Yee and Wong Shi Yuen, a total of three outstanding students from Institut Sinaran had obtained the Full Scholarship from the University of Hull. Back in 2008, Lin Wee Khang won a Full Scholarship to read Pharmaceutical Science. He has since graduated and is presently doing post graduate research at Oxford University, UK. In 2011, Yap Yong Yi won a Full Scholarship to read Chemistry. Last year, Sean Ferdinand Ng Yew Kit was awarded a Full Scholarship to study Law. The award of all these scholarships are in recognition of the special working relationship that Institut Sinaran has developed with the Hull University.
Joey Chong was a former student of KK High School whilst Wong Shi Yuen studied at Tshung Tsin Secondary School. Both joined the institute in January 2012 to do the Cambridge GCE A Level programme as they believed that it is the best internationally recognized pre-university programme. They completed their studies after 1 ½ years and will be heading to Hull University this September 2013 to further their education. Choosing the A-Level course at Institut Sinaran has provided them the shortest time possible to complete their preparatory studies to enter university.
Joey Chong is going to study Medical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hull. When interviewed, Joey said: "I feel very excited now. I want to thank my parents for sending me to Institut Sinaran for my pre-u studies. Institut Sinaran is an ideal centre for providing quality & holistic education, with a good learning environment, excellent teachers and diverse activities. Besides textbook knowledge, my organizational and communication skills have improved through my participation in various activities of the institute. Now I have greater self-confidence. I want to record my sincere thanks and gratitude to all my lecturers who have guided and supported me all the way through my time at the institute.
Another recipient, Wong Shi Yuen was very delighted to receive the scholarship. When interviewed, he expressed his appreciation to all the teachers who had taught him before, especially the teachers at Datuk Simon Fung Primary School, Tshung Tsin Secondary School and the lecturers of Institut Sinaran. He said that his experience at the institute has broaden his horizon. With the experienced lecturers and conducive learning environment, Institut Sinaran is an ideal centre for providing quality education.
Mr William Pan, the CEO, complimented the Hull University Scholarship Program for assisting talented students in developing countries. The financial aid provides an opportunity for students who are keen to further their studies in Hull University but experience financial constraints. The scholarship program will substantially lessen the financial burden of their families thus enabling them to devote their attention to their studies. He thanked Hull University for the Full Scholarships awarded to the students of Institut Sinaran since 2011 and hopes that more top universities locally and overseas can emulate the University of Hull.
